Drag racing is filled with unpredictable moments that can quickly turn a race upside down. One minute, everything goes smoothly, and the next, chaos ensues as a machine malfunctions, leaving the driver in a precarious position.
In this particular instance, Street Outlaws had set up a thrilling showdown between two impressive vehicles. However, things did not go according to plan. Richard Rawlings and his car faced an unexpected turn of events that thwarted their chances of turning the race in their favor.
This car was meticulously built by Gas Monkey Garage specifically for the new race against the Street Outlaws. The intention was to prove that creating a drag race car is not as challenging as it may seem.
Although Richard Rawlings and his team have a track record of crafting incredible machines, they find themselves in uncharted territory, surrounded by experienced competitors. Staying afloat in such intense competition is far from easy.
As it was the car's first time on the track, it was natural for some components to require immediate replacement and adjustments. Seasoned racers typically conduct a shakedown, which involves identifying what stays on the car, what falls off, and what needs fixing or fine-tuning. Unfortunately, Rawlings and his team unintentionally went through a similar process. As soon as they initiated the burnout, they discovered issues that needed immediate attention before making a safe pass. Regrettably, they were unable to complete a run. Instead, they had to load the car onto a trailer right on the track and make further preparations for the race.
The video below depicts the extent of this challenging situation, which may be difficult to watch. It's essential to note that no one was harmed during this unexpected shakedown.
