The heartbreaking news was shared by her son, Sebastian, in an emotional Instagram post accompanied by family photos. “My mum passed away on Monday,” Sebastian wrote. “I know she wanted to share her journey after her accident and brain surgery, so I thought she would appreciate one last post sharing the news to people who supported her.”
A Tragic Turn After a Skiing Accident
Ban’s accident occurred during a family vacation in Aspen, Colorado, on Christmas Eve. In a previous Instagram post, she recounted the details of the incident that ultimately changed her life.
“At the top of the mountain, I caught a tip and face-planted,” she wrote. “Luckily, I always wear a helmet. It didn’t seem that bad at the time, and I was able to ski to the bottom.” Though she was cleared for a concussion by ski patrol, a paramedic suggested she go to the hospital for a scan, a decision that would prove life-saving.
Doctors discovered a brain bleed and immediately airlifted her to a trauma hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery. Despite her resilience during recovery, her condition worsened in the weeks following the accident.
A Legacy of Creativity and Style
Born in Singapore, Ban’s extraordinary career took her across the globe, living and working in New York, London, and Paris. Her passion for fashion and design was unmistakable and left an indelible mark on the industry.

In a 2023 interview with Vogue Singapore, Ban spoke passionately about her love for fashion: “Fashion is my passion and my creative outlet—whether I’m designing something or reinventing myself through a look. I love becoming a character through my style.”
