San Martin, who was born in Mallorca, Spain, and later raised in Montana, left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry through his work on daytime television and beyond. He first appeared on “Days of Our Lives” in a minor role but soon captured the attention of the show’s casting team. In a 2016 interview with Afterbuzz TV’s Spotlight, San Martin described how his journey to landing the role of Dario Hernandez was anything but ordinary.

“It was kind of insane because they booked me for an under-five role,” he shared. “I literally walked in and auditioned for Marnie [Saitta, casting director for ‘Days of Our Lives’], and she saw a photo of me from when I went to Mozambique to take pictures of kids. She said, ‘I think you’re perfect for the role.’” San Martin’s performance left such an impression that, moments after leaving the set, he received a call offering him a contract role.

San Martin played Dario Hernandez from 2010 to 2011, earning recognition for his nuanced portrayal of the character. The role was later recast in 2016 and taken over by Jordi Vilasuso. Beyond “Days of Our Lives,” San Martin also appeared in the beloved daytime drama “The Bold and the Beautiful,” the film “Behind the Candelabra,” and the hit series “Jane the Virgin.” More recently, he starred in the short film “Dot,” showcasing his versatility as an actor.

In addition to acting, San Martin had a background in photography and modeling. He worked as a teen model in Spain before turning his focus to acting. His creative pursuits took him around the world, including a photography trip to Mozambique that became a pivotal moment in his career.

San Martin’s passing has deeply affected those who knew him. Camila Banus, who played his on-screen sister Gabi on “Days of Our Lives,” paid tribute to him on Instagram, writing, “Pepe, what can I say but I love you and rest in peace, my friend. Love you mucho mucho mucho. I wish I had told you more.”

Fans and colleagues remember San Martin for his talent, charm, and warm personality. As tributes pour in, his legacy lives on through his work and the memories he created with those who knew and loved him. He will be sorely missed.
